The Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department and the Arlington County Fire Department held their annual Fire Prevention Week Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Fire Station #3.  The day included tours of the station, Engine 103 and Light & Air 103.  Volunteer Firefighter-Recruit Jack Baber and Indoc Recruit Jeff Perry also held demonstrations of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and "two-minute drills," where they were timed in donning their personal protective firefighting gear for the public.  Also, parents and kids were allowed to try their hand at handling an 1 3/4 in. attack hoseline which was connected to a hydrant next to the apparatus.  In addition, a "moon bounce" was provided for the kids' entertainment.  Overall, around 150 citizens from the Cherrydale neighborhood and beyond stopped by the station during the event.  Many thanks to the administrative members of CVFD and A-shift ACFD career staff for their assistance and support during this event!
